Bios

Jackie has been a veterinarian and animal advocate for nearly 25 years. She served on the board of the Humane Rescue Alliance for five years, and now co-leads their Emeritus Board. Jackie also served as an Advisor for Earthwatch – a non-profit that connects people with scientists worldwide to conserve the planet. In 2016, Jackie created a children’s board game, Brixiples, to teach ethics and safety. She is an avid art collector with preferences for abstract and modern art, with an interest in female artists and subjects.

Anthony was an early employee of AOL, and now enjoys a successful career as a fiction writer and game designer. His mother, Alicia Dobranski, was an abstract painter and collected other artists, giving Anthony an early introduction to galleries. He began collecting as soon as he had his own walls, mainly contemporary paintings and prints, and the occasional sculpture. He supports the local arts and has served on the boards of Woolly Mammoth Theatre, Rorschach Theatre, and The Inner Loop.

Curators’ Statement

We often get caught in a loop, applying familiar solutions to life’s problems, thinking within the box. The natural world provides space to meander in new directions, both mentally and physically. The perspective gained from zooming into nature, biology, Earth, can be just as revelatory as panning out to the point of blur, obscuring all detail. This art exhibition evokes the sensation of suspending the familiar to journey into an infinite zoom and back out again to a distant perspective. Epiphanies dwell in these spaces.

The Humane Rescue Alliance honors more than 150 years of commitment to protecting animals, supporting families, and advocating for positive change to create a world where all animals can thrive. We assist our communities by helping them find new companions through adoption, secure assistance for veterinary care or pet supplies, and increase access to services to keep families together with their pets. Through our five campuses in the District of Columbia and New Jersey, 19 animal control contracts, and direct care, rescue, and community-based services, we are the largest animal services provider in our region, touching the lives of over 100,000 animals annually. HRA serves as a national leader and local champion for all animals. Our reach empowers us to reimagine the traditional sheltering system and tackle the most difficult issues facing animals and people who love them. For more information, visit humanerescuealliance.org.
